Thirteen-Week Operational Details
During the First Week
Back at the Shop
During the first day after the vending machine is installed and operation begins, the supervisor can see exactly what is selling and when the sales occur. The CodeRealm Portal, which is used to obtain a report at the end of the day, reveals the following. Product number 2 has sold nearly half of its stock, product numbers 4, 6, and 9 had sold nearly one quarter of their stock, and product number 8 has sold nearly one-seventh of its stock. The other products (number 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7) have sold none.
Near the end of the second day, the supervisor uses the CodeRealm Report Portal to review the results of the day. Product number 2 is nearly sold-out, product numbers 4, 6, and 9 have sold a little over one-third of their stock, and product number 8 has sold a little less than two-sevenths of its stock. The others still are not selling.
The supervisor decides that at week’s end he will implement the following changes. Product number 2 will be increased to three slots, product numbers 4, 6, and 9 will be increased to two slots each, and product number 8 will remain with only one slot. The other products will be discontinued at this location for now. Using the CodeRealm Control Portal, the supervisor enters the changes he plans for the end of the week. The CodeRealm Control Portal sends product orders to the beverage wholesaler, accordingly, so the extra product needed, will be ready when the vending machine service man begins the route that includes this example vending machine location at the end of the week.
During the morning of the third day product number 2 sells out completely, as expected. Then came a surprise. Product number 3 began selling, and by the end of the day has sold nearly half of its stock! That means that product number 3 sells only when product number 2 is not available. The supervisor is really glad that he can obtain his valuable information on-demand in real-time. It would take time and effort to solve that riddle without the CodeRealm Portals. See OLD WORLD TUNING week five through week eight.
Around noon on the fourth day, product numbers 4, 6, and 9 are sold-out. Near the end of the fifth day product number 3 is sold-out. Normally the supervisor would have already rescheduled this machine location for early restock, however this is a case study example, and therefore it will be allowed to run to the end of the week as planned. This will enable easier direct comparison between the OLD WORLD TUNING method and the CodeRealm WORLD TUNING method.
End of First Week
On Location
The vending machine service man arrives on location with all the product quantities he needs to restock the vending machine. He already knows exactly what he will see when he opens the machine. He does not need to write the information into his log because the information was already back at the shop before he opened the door of the vending machine. The vending machine service man removes the remaining items of the non-selling products, and refills the vending machine completely with three slots for product number 2, one slot for product number 8, and two slots each for product numbers 4, 6, and 9. The vending machine service man closes the door of the vending machines. CodeRealm verifies the operating status, product item count. The vending machine service man hears a reassuring beep from the vending machine, gathers the old replaced product items, and leaves for his next location.
End of First Week, Begin Second Week
Back at the Shop
The supervisor saw the example vending machine show full stock and good operating status on his CodeRealm Report Portal before the vending machine service man got back to his truck. The sales report and revenue calculations were available also. The first week revenue is $154 or $22.00 per day, which is 62% of potential revenue. Although the revenue results for the first week are exactly the same for CodeRealm WORLD TUNING as for OLD WORLD TUNING, the changes already implemented already catapult CodeRealm way ahead. The results of those changes will be noticed dramatically during the second week of operation.
After two and one-half days of operation, the supervisor verifies that everything is selling just as expected, reviews the wholesale orders, and clicks OK on the CodeRealm Report Portal. The product orders for the example vending machine and location are added to the orders from all the other vending machines for the example route of new locations. The CodeRealm Report Portal displays a summary of all the orders for the route, which includes the route of the example vending machine. The supervisor reviews the summary report, paying particular attention to the calculated recommendation for the quantity of product spares for each vending machine location.
During the CodeRealm set-up, the supervisor had selected a product spare level of 7% above predicted quantities calculated, so he felt comfortable accepting the order with a click. This order is added to the orders from all the other routes, under this supervisor’s supervision, scheduled for the same day. The CodeRealm Report Portal displays a report summarizing those orders. All looks ok, and the supervisor clicks to accept. This batch of orders will be stored until it is ready to be sent to the product wholesaler. Each day, the CodeRealm Control Portal launches a procedure that will evaluate additional sales from each vending machine at each location and recalculates the projected product quantities and spares for each. This process has been setup to be automatic and ongoing, so that when the supervisor is ready to send a set of wholesale product orders, he has another opportunity to evaluate the order and modify it if desired.
The ordered product arrives late afternoon on the seventh day, where the warehouse man receives the shipment and scans the new inventory into the system. The vending machine routes scheduled for the seventh day are obtained from the CodeRealm Report Portal and printed. Trucks for those routes are loaded accordingly.
Early the next morning, the supervisor prints the latest vending machine service route information for all the routes for the day, along with any additional spares indicated. While the supervisor is briefing the vending machine service persons, any additional spares required are added to the load on the respective vending machine service vehicles.
End of Second Week
On Location
The vending machine service man arrives at the example location, quickly reviews the current sales and operational status of the example vending machine, using a small portable computer with wireless Internet access to the CodeRealm Report Portal. Product number 2 has sold 93% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 92% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 94% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 98% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 96% from two slots.
The vending machine service man does not need to write down any of this information. The CodeRealm system has already collected this information. He simply verifies that the reported information matches the actual condition, refills the machine to full capacity, and goes to his next location.
End of Second Week, Begin Third Week
Back at the Shop
The supervisor is pleased that he does not have to wait for the vending machine service man to finish the route to know how the example vending machine has done for the week. The second week revenue is $237 or $33.86 per day, which is 95% of potential revenue. It is quite a jump to $33.86 per day in the second week from $22.00 per day in the first week. What a difference having real-time information on-demand can make!
End of Third Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 95% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 96% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 92% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 98% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 98% from two slots.
End of Third Week, Begin Fourth Week
Back at the Shop
The third week revenue is $238 or $34.00 per day, which is 95% of potential revenue. The supervisor compared this information with the information calculated each day of the previous week. Each day the current and historical sales information was used to predict the result for the end of the week. The supervisor noticed that the difference between the prediction and the actual result varied from 11% at the end of the first day to nearly 1% by the morning of the seventh day. He realized that the difference would decrease each week, as more history was available. All of this is possible due to having his valuable information on demand in real-time available through the CodeRealm Portal System.
End of Fourth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 99% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 96% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 94% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 82% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 100% from two slots.
End of Fourth Week, Begin Fifth Week
Back at the Shop
The fourth week revenue is $236 or $33.71 per day, which is 94% of potential revenue. The supervisor notices that product number 6 sold-out early on the seventh day, and he is glad that he had used the CodeRealm Setup Portal to implement sales rate calculations. The lost-sales prediction from the CodeRealm Report Portal indicated that six or seven more items of product number 9 could have been sold. The supervisor also noticed that the sales of product number 6 was decreasing, so at some point it may be better to decrease the quantity of product number 6 by one slot and increase the quantity of product number 9 by one slot.
By the end of the third day, the supervisor notices that the CodeRealm Report Portal indicates that the product quantity changes for products number 6 and 9 should be implemented at the end of this week. Wholesale product orders are set in motion accordingly.
End of Fifth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 92% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 96% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 74% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 100% from two slots. The vending machine service man removes the items from one of the slots for product number 6, fills it with product number 9, and fills all the other slots to capacity.
End of Fifth Week, Begin Sixth Week
Back at the Shop
The fifth week revenue is $233 or $33.29 per day, which is 93% of potential revenue. In review, the supervisor notices that product number 2 sold-out in the afternoon on the day before servicing. The CodeRealm report and control portals are used to calculate the sales rate for product number 2, and estimate the lost-sales to be only two or three items. By making the product quantity adjustments now, the supervisor prevented the revenue down trend, which should allow and begin an up trend next week.
End of Sixth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 88% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 98% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 88% from three slots.
End of Sixth Week, Begin Seventh Week
Back at the Shop
The sixth week revenue is $235 or $33.57 per day, which is 94% of potential revenue. Product number 2 and product number 6 are still selling out late in the day before servicing. Using CodeRealm Portals again, the supervisor was able to determine that the amount of lost-sales was not enough to cost-justify making another change yet. It is sure good to not have to guess any more.
End of Seventh Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 84% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 98% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 91% from three slots.
End of Seventh Week, Begin Eighth Week
Back at the Shop
The seventh week revenue is $238 or $34.00 per day, which is 95% of potential revenue. Product number 2 and product number 6 are still stable. No changes are needed yet. The sales from product number 4 are increasing, and the sales from product number 8 are decreasing. The supervisor decides to set a “detail watch” on both products 4 and 8 using the CodeRealm Portal system.
End of Eighth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 80% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 100% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 95% from three slots.
End of Eighth Week, Begin Ninth Week
Back at the Shop
The eighth week revenue is $241 or $34.43 per day, which is 96% of potential revenue. Product numbers 2 and number 6 are beginning to show a slight increased sales rate, but not enough to make a change yet. There are no alerts yet on products number 4 and number 8, however it may be soon. The supervisor is excited about being able to keep the revenue percent range in the nineties. That was not possible before CodeRealm was brought in.
End of Ninth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 8 has sold 72% from one slot, product number 4 has sold 100% from two slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 93% from all three slots.
End of Ninth Week, Begin Tenth Week
Back at the Shop
The ninth week revenue is $238 or $34.00 per day, which is 95% of potential revenue. The CodeRealm Report Portal provided an alert. The alert indicates a change in the selection quantities of two products would be beneficial. Sales for product number 8 has dropped to 72%, while the lost-sales prediction from the CodeRealm Report Portal indicated that seven or eight more items of product number 4 could have been sold. The supervisor decides to drop product number 8, and fill its slot with product number 4, which would then have three slots. Wholesale product orders are initiated accordingly.
End of Tenth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 4 has sold 88% from all three slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 93% from all three slots. The vending machine service man removes the remaining items from the slot for product number 8 and fills it with product number 4. All other slots are filled with their respective product items.
End of Tenth Week, Begin Eleventh Week
Back at the Shop
The tenth week revenue is $236 or $33.71 per day, which is 94% of potential revenue. The supervisor realizes that sales for product number 9 are beginning to slow down, and decides to set a detail watch on that product using the CodeRealm Portal system. The sales rate of product number 6 has been steadily increasing the last two weeks. Two days later the supervisor runs a predictive analysis on the sales rates of products number 9 and number 6, and learns that he should reduce the selection quantity of product number 9, and increase the quantity of product number 6. The supervisor triggers the necessary operations changes through the CodeRealm Control Portal, which initiates changes in wholesale orders and directives to the vending machine service man.
End of Eleventh Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 4 has sold 97% from all three slots, product number 6 has sold 100% from one slot, and product number 9 has sold 85% from all three slots. The vending machine service man removes the remaining items from one of the three slots for product number 9 and fills it with product number 6. All other slots are filled with their respective product items.
End of Eleventh Week, Begin Twelfth Week
Back at the Shop
The eleventh week revenue is $237 or $33.86 per day, which is 95% of potential revenue. The sales rate for product number 6 is still increasing slowly. The sales rate for product number 9 has dropped significantly. The supervisor is glad he reduced the quantity for product number 9 and increased the quantity for product number 6.
End of Twelfth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 4 has sold 99% from all three slots, product number 6 has sold 84% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 100% from two slots.
End of Twelfth Week, Begin Thirteenth Week
Back at the Shop
The twelfth week revenue is $241 or $34.43 per day, which is 96% of potential revenue. The sales rates for all the products are beginning to increase. The supervisor thinks he may have to consider changing the refill timing or add more vending machine capacity at the example location.
End of Thirteenth Week
On Location
Product number 2 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 4 has sold 100% from all three slots, product number 6 has sold 99% from two slots, and product number 9 has sold 100% from two slots.
End of Thirteenth Week
Back at the Shop
The thirteenth week revenue is $248 or $35.43 per day, which is 99% of potential revenue. The supervisor has decided it is time to consider reducing the refill timing from 7 days to 6 days. For a review of the past thirteen weeks see the End of Quarter Summary, and then go to the section called Timing.
